With schools out for the summer, families may be wondering how they can continue keeping their children safe and entertained. Below are some tips, resources, and local events appropriate for families, children, adolescents, and adults to attend. Internet safety is important to consider in the age of technology, please see below for more information about parental controls, signs of abuse, and tips for talking to your children about internet safety. If you have a concern about something you see on your child’s device, please report to the appropriate authorities.

Tips to help protect children:

• Discuss internet safety and develop an online safety plan

  • Click here for tips on how to talk to your children about the internet

• Supervise young children’s use of the internet

• Review games, apps, and social media sites

• Adjust privacy settings and use parental controls

• Tell children to avoid sharing personal information, photos, and videos online

• Teach children about body safety and boundaries

• Be alert to potential signs of abuse

• Encourage children to tell a parent, guardian, or other trusted adult if they notice anything harmful or inappropriate while online

• Immediately report suspected online enticement or sexual exploitation of a child

  • Call 911

  • File a report with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) at 1-800-843-56780.
