Children & Youth
United Way of Hall County envisions that all Hall County children and youth enter school ready to learn, graduate on time and are prepared for the next step in their future whether it is employment or further education.
What We Know *- In 2009, the percentage of eligible Hall County children enrolled in Georgia Pre-K was 54.8%. This is a decreased from the 2008 rate 55.2% and is below the state average of 58.2%.
- 3rd grade students in Gainesville City and Hall County schools scored at or above the state average in both reading on the 2008-2009 Georgia Department of Education’s Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT). This represents an 8% increase over the previous school year. 3rd grade reading success is a recognized predictor of future success in school.
- During the 2008-2009 school year, Hall County's drop out rate was 15.6%. This compares unfavorably with Georgia's rate of 13.6%.
- In 2009, 75% of Hall County School System students and 73.3% of Gainesville City Schools students graduated from high school on time. While these rates are improving, a quarter of students entering 9th grade will not complete high school on time.
